Also known as the 'land of a thousand hills' for its breathtaking landscapes, Rwanda's coffee has transformed into some of the most sought-after in the world, thanks to its ideal coffee farming conditions of fertile volcanic soil, high altitudes and regular rainfall. 

The Liza Washing Station, located in the Giheke region in Rwanda’s Western Province is owned by fourth generation farmer, Jean Paul. He has passionately nurtured a farm consisting of over 2000 trees and perfected the art of production for his region.  

Since taking over, Jean Paul has built a cupping lab in the pursuit of achieving exceptional coffee. The farmers he works alongside have farms ranging from 1550 - 1900 meters above sea level, all entrusting Jean Paul with their harvests as he experiments with different fermentation processes, resulting in a host of unique mirco-lots from this washing station.

Liza’s coffee production has been combined from several days of processing in the latest season. Only 15 lots of this washed coffee were produced throughout the entirety of the last harvest.  

After delivery, the coffee is sorted by hand, pulped and stored in fermentation tanks for 12 hours. Following the development of these amazing fermentation flavours, the coffee is washed and moved to covered drying tables for additional hand sorting. At the final stage, it is then moved to raised tables in the sun to be dried.
